Cell salts can be utilized to help with various types of health issues including acne breakouts. You may already be familiar with cell salts or you may be wondering what cell salts are. For those of you unfamiliar with cell salts, cell salts are also known as Schluessler salts, tissue salts, biochemic medicine, and biochemic salts. They are a division of homeopathic medicine developed in the 1800s by a German physician by the name of Dr. Wilhelm Heinrich Schuessler.
The cell salts are known as cellular nutrition and also known as the body’s 12 essential minerals needed to maintain health and function. It is thought that deficiency of these vital minerals leads to imbalances in health. Cell salts provide these essential minerals in micro-doses and can be taken daily to maintain balance.
Each cell salt helps with various tissues and issues of the skin and body. In this blog post I am sharing a bit on the ones that can help with various forms of acne, from black heads to pimples, pustules and oily skin.
So let’s discuss various skin issues that affect individuals struggling with acne and the Cell Salts that can be helpful for each.

So how would one go about utilizing these Cell Salts, just take all of them? No. You need to read up on each Cell Salt and the descriptions and indications for each and select the most appropriate Cell Salt(s) for the individual and how they experience their acne. Just a note that Cell Salts can and should be taken in combination unlike true Homeopathic remedies.
Where can you read up on Cell Salts? There are various books available for purchase that can help, my favorite book that I refer most often is The 12 Tissue Remedies of Schussler by Boericke & Dewey. I will also give some useful descriptions of the above listed Cell Salt below that may be helpful if you do not have a book available to assist in your selection, though I strongly urge obtaining one.

In general I was taught that you can choose a number of well suited Cell Salts to take at one time together. I usually do not select more than 3-4 at one time and I always suggest dosing according to the manufacturer’s directions. Remember with Cell Salts you are trying to correct mineral deficiencies, not treat homeopathically, though they can be used homeopathically, which makes things that much more confusing. This is why I suggest dosing according to the manufacturer’s directions.
Duration of dosing for Cell Salts is suggested for 3 months and then reevaluated, usually at this point in time the prescription will change, though not always. Personally I suggest dosing Monday-Friday and taking weekends off from dosing. This is a personal choice as some sensitive individuals may experience minor proving symptoms that develop from daily use for 3 months.
Cell Salts take time to correct the underlying deficiency that is contributing to the issue acne this is why 3 months duration is recommended. If there is no improvement the selected Cell Salts need to be reevaluated. If there is anything new that has come up or developed during this time add this to your prescription criteria. These new issues can be clues to assist in your remedy selection. If there is no progress in 3-6 months then I would suggest booking in for a Full Homeopathic Appointment to get to the bottom of what is going on.
One thing that is essential in dealing with acne is good skin hygiene, this cannot be ignored or skipped over. Good quality professional products that are non-stripping and non-comedogenic are essential. Cleansing morning and night with the double cleanse method, not picking, removing dairy and seed oils – and sometimes egg and wheat, is essential as well. Don’t worry once the skin is clear these foods can often be eaten in moderation.
I hope this helps give some guidance on prescribing Cell Salts to those struggling with acne. The best of luck on your acne journey.
