3 Healing Baths for Eczema

healing baths for eczema

Healing baths have been used for millennia for various skin conditions. The Romans, Greeks, and Byzantines all used baths for health and healing purposes. It should be no surprise then that healing baths for eczema could be utilized as well.

I will cover 3 different types of baths that can be utilized for eczema in this post. If one does not work for you, try another. Many times with skin issues it is a trial and error process in finding what works for you. So don’t give up.

These baths are a great way to get relief from symptoms and to encourage healing. A bath is also a great way to treat the whole body, especially if you are not making headway with topically applied creams and lotions. If you haven’t yet, please read my post on the dangers of topical steroids.

3 Healing Baths for Eczema

Dead Sea Salt Bath

Dead Sea Salts, due to their high mineral content, are very healing and replenishing to the skin. Sea bathing has been used throughout human history for healing of all kinds of ailments. It helps with itching, increases skin hydration, reduces redness, keeps the skin soft, and can help dry up weepy areas. The effects of Dead Sea Salts are also antimicrobial, so it can help keep raw skin infection free.

Much of the research on Dead Sea Salt baths for skin conditions was done at very high concentrations. Optimally to make a bath mix 2 cups of Dead Sea Salts into a warm bath and soak for 20 minutes.

Colloidal Oat Bath

Colloidal oats help with redness of the skin, itching, increasing hydration, reducing inflammation and promoting healing. There is an issue with colloidal oats though that needs to be kept in mind and addressed. Oats are a crop that is heavily sprayed with Glyphosate. Oats are also usually contaminated with wheat. Glyphosate is a proven carcinogen among many other things, and gluten can possibly be a trigger for eczema. So the best colloidal oat product would be organic and certified gluten free.

This produces an issue since organic, gluten free colloidal oats are hard to find. One option is to make your own. Though they may not be ground as finely as a true pharmaceutical grade colloidal oat, you will have peace of mind that the product is safe.

To make colloidal oats:

Grind 2 cups Organic, Gluten Free Rolled Oats in a grain mill, or high quality blender such as a Blendtec or Vitamix, until very fine, flour consistency.

To make a bath add 1 cup of the colloidal oats to a warm bath and soak for 20 minutes. Store the remaining colloidal oats for your next bath.

Apple Cider Vinegar Bath

The main benefit of apple cider vinegar baths is that they are antimicrobial. They are used with eczema as a substitute for bleach baths that many doctors recommend. There is also evidence that apple cider vinegar promotes healing of lesions and reduces inflammation.

To make a bath with apple cider vinegar add 1 cup to a warm bath and soak for 20 minutes.

Try these healing baths for eczema and see how they go and which ones work for you. If you find that more than one is helpful then rotate them. You don’t have to just pick one. These baths are a great addition to your Homeopathic treatment for eczema as well. I recommend them often, especially in those with full body eczema or with those going through topical steroid withdrawal.

Happy healing!
